clair-b-photoClair B is an air purifier device from South Korea. I backed their Kickstarter project back in November 2015 and received the unit few days ago. I like its compact design and the fact that it’s powered by micro-USB port instead of AC power. Using magnetic air filtration technology, this device creates electrostatic charge causing particles to be strongly attracted to it. The electret film filter is capable of eliminating ultra-fine dust (smaller than 0.1 micrometers μm), allergens, pollen, mold, cigarette smoke, exhaust gasses and more. The filter is made of an embossed polypropylene film, a self-charging electrostatic material, wrapped in a cylindrical shape, and their patented design allows the polypropylene to hold charged sides.

clair-b-coverMy first impression, this is a well-made product. The finish is decent. The overall feel is solid. Since I am their Kickstarter backer, my shipment came with 2 replacement filters. I tested this unit in my office and in my bedroom. It seemed to work well. The device never went hot (eliminating my worry of fire risk), and most importantly I did not get any ozone-like smell that often produced by other air purifier devices.

Many people thinks that air purifier products do not actually do something meaningful. To completely honest, I do not know how big (or how little) the health impact of using this product at all. I will probably find that out in few months when I need to replace the filter. If I actually see massive amount of dust being filtered, I guess it does bring some level of benefit after all.
