apple-in-ear-headphones-vs-earpods

So far I have three different Apple earphones: the first Apple Earphones, the Apple In-Ear Headphones and the latest Apple Earpods (all with Remote and Mic). The first “classic” Apple earphones is so out of question as they’re not comfortable in my ears and the sound quality is very standard (trying to choose a positive tone here).

I bought my Apple In-Ear Headphones last year when I saw it in an Apple Premium Reseller for $45 (sale price). The official retail price is $79 (US price) and it’s even more expensive here in Australia. Compared to the classic Earphones, this unit fits more comfortably in my ear, and the sound quality is far more superior. But how will the new Apple Earpods compare to this one?

apple-earphones-comparisonWhen Apple introduced iPhone 5 a while ago, one of the things that caught my attention is their new design of earphones (they call it Earpods). The shape is a bit unusual, following the shape of human ears, according to them. But my iPhone 4S contract is still another year, so it’s not my time yet to upgrade to iPhone 5. So I waited patiently until Apple had their One Day Shopping event on Nov 23, 2012 (last month). I bought the Apple Earpods for $28 (normal US price is $29, normal Australian price is $35).

One problem I often had with Apple In-Ear Headphones is, the earbuds often got left in my ears when I unplug them. These Earpods do not have in-ear buds, so I definitely won’t get this problem.

Now, the shape. I tried using Apple Earpods to listen to some music non-stop for 3 hours, and it still rest comfortably in my ears. Sound quality is about the same. I can hear more treble with Earpods, and I can hear slightly stronger bass with In-Ear Headphones. But both have decent sound quality that I can accept.

I love that it’s a lot easier to keep my new Earpods clean. No more soft-earbuds left in ear, and I get to hear my music longer.
