apple-september-event-2014

It’s that time of the year again ! Apple is set to announce their latest hardware on 9 September 2014. Today is already 9 September in Australia, unfortunately it’s still 8 September in Cupertino, so Australia would have to wait a little bit longer to read the news about Apple announcement.

Apple rumors and hardware leaks get worse every year. At this point, everyone knows that the new iPhone will mostly come in 2 screen sizes: 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. Countless speculations about iWatch has been around for months, with lots of rendered designs imagined by fans. All these “concepts” are insanely driving unrealistic expectations because rendering a product from a graphic software is a lot different than actually designing a working hardware.

I have my personal wishlist for this launch, hopefully I will read some good news tomorrow morning when I wake up and reading the news about Apple’s event.

1. For iPhone, I really hope Apple has good solution for using the phone using one hand. Both size options for the new iPhone is larger than the current iPhone 5S. I frequently take public transport, often have to stand. It means, one hand must hold on to something, leaving another hand to use my phone. Standing for an hour without anything to do because my phone needs to be operated using two hands doesn’t sound so appealing to me. I’ve read about “reachability mode”, but no one seems to know how it actually works yet.

2. For iPhone, IF they are going to add NFC chip, please make a good implementation out of it. Being able to pair with Bluetooth speakers with a tap is nice, but just a gimmick. Sending files to another phones is another gimmick. During my 3 years of using smartphones, I only need to transfer file ONCE, and Air Drop did it just fine without NFC. So if Apple is going to put NFC in iPhone 6, I certainly hope it could replace my credit cards, or my Myki card (Myki is the smart card for public transport payment in Melbourne).

3. Still for iPhone, I wish iPhone screen would be a LOT better in surviving against scratches. I’ve read countless rumors about sapphire protection. Heck it doesn’t have to be sapphire. Anything. As long as the screen gets stronger, I’m happy.

4. Related to iPhone, I’m a bit worried about the screen resolutions of 2 sizes. Hopefully this won’t create much issues with fragmentations for developers.

5. For iWatch, the most important aspect for me is battery life. My Pebble smartwatch can easily survive 3-5 days for a single charge. Having another gadget that needs to be recharged everyday is annoying.

6. For iWatch, I want my watch to be thin. If it’s thick and ugly, I’m not going to even consider it.
