This blog entry is part of a continuous writing on the topic of “optimizing smartphone usage for smarter life”.
If you haven’t done so, please start reading from the first article on this series.

Not just limited to reading content and do a little bit of office files editing, smartphone is actually more than capable tool for us to create content. Sure it might be less convenient than doing it in desktop computer. It all depends on our lifestyle and mobility. For people who spend more time on-the-go, this might be a good solution to remain productive in times without a desktop computer. Or, we can simply use smartphone to jot down some drafts and rough ideas whenever we get the inspiration. Then we can always edit and finalize them later in desktop computer.

This blog post is the sixth part of 8 posts I will write about optimizing smartphone for smarter life.
I will write this guide based on iPhone. Simply because iPhone is my primary smartphone for now. Most of my tips and guides should be applicable for Android, Windows Phone and other smartphone OS. But you might need to do a bit of more research to find out how to get similar function in that OS.

This guide will NOT teach you step-by-step how to setup or use the features. Rather, I am trying to inspire you with a feature’s functionality and how we can benefit from it to live smarter life. More productive, more time efficient, more organized.

Content Creation

Smartphone can be a powerful tool for both consuming (reading) and creating contents. Contents created in smartphones are not necessarily complex with some sophisticated formatting and illustrations. It can be just plain text, whether it’s a final text or a rough draft. One of the most common form of content creation happens when we reply email using smartphone. It’s a method of communication and content creation at the same time.

In iPhone, there’s a default app called Notes where we can… well, write notes. I find this very useful when I suddenly got an idea far from my desk (and desktop computer). When I didn’t immediately write down that idea, chances are, when I finally got time to write in front of my computer, the idea is already gone, forgotten. Maybe some of you can relate to my experience. By using Notes app, things that I write are automatically synced between my devices. When I return to my desk, my earlier note is already waiting for me.

Writing blog post is also possible in smartphone. As a clear example, I wrote significant parts of this blog post in my iPhone while I was on a train journey.

There are some third party apps dedicated for writers. These apps are trying to make it as easy as possible for writers to write down their ideas and imaginations with less distractions.

There are also apps allowing us to create charts, graphics, and mindmap. Mindmap drawing is very effective in arranging our pieces of idea, arrange them into something workable and make sense. I use SimpleMind app to do my mindmap drawing.
