adam-elements-mfi-lightning-cable-reversible-usbCharging cable is an essential accessory for every smartphone or tablet user. Today we have two major standard of charging cable: Apple lightning connector for Apple products and micro-USB for everything else. Lightning connector has an interesting feature that initially seemed simple, but turned out to have significant impact in user experience: reversible connector. It means that user will never need to figure out which side to plug into the device. Micro-USB still does not have this feature, even though there is a future plan to make a revised version with reversible feature.

Every charging cable has two ends. Even Apple’s lightning connector is reversible, the other end of the cable is a full-sized USB, which is NOT reversible. So in the end, we still have to figure out the right side to plug in for the USB end. This interesting product from Adam Elements offers something different. The full-sized USB connector of their cable is also reversible. So if user use their cable with lightning connector, both ends of the cable are reversible. To make it even better, it is still backward compatible with all our existing wall chargers or USB ports.

Adam Elements charging cable from this model comes in lightning connector and lightning/micro-USB combo options. The cables are available in 20 cm, 1.2 m and 2 m with 4 color options: white, black, blue, pink. All cables with lightning connector has Apple MFi certification. I got myself 2 cables. 1.2 m cable is ideal for normal charging at home using wall charger. 20 cm cable is ideal for use with powerbank while on-the-go. Since most powerbanks use micro-USB connector for charging, by using this cable I only need to carry one cable everywhere instead of two.

Based on my test, this cable works perfectly fine for charging and data transfer with desktop computer. For charging, I do not notice any speed difference when compared to Apple original charging cable. For data transfer, I do notice slightly slower transfer speed, especially when transferring large amount of data. However, since I bought the cable mainly for charging, I am fully satisfied with this cable.
