Belkin WeMo Smart Plug with Thread is a smart plug, available with AU plug, compatible with Apple Homekit and connects through Thread instead of Wifi or Bluetooth. In my personal experience, Thread network is generally more stable and react faster than Bluetooth. If you already use other Homekit devices with Thread, adding this smart plug is a no brainer.

Only last month I wrote about the lack of Homekit-compatible smart AU plug that do not take up multiple spaces in a power board. This latest product from Belkin does just that with its slim form factor. A simple smart plug that takes exactly 1 plug in a power outlet (no plugspread). So far I never had any issue with plugging another cable in an plug next to it. Brilliantly simple, yet I wonder why haven’t we gotten more products with such form factor.

This product does not come with an app from its manufacturer. We connect it directly to Homekit network using Apple Home app. It does not have energy monitoring or other fancy feature, it simply allow us to turn a device on or off reliably, thanks to Thread connectivity. Some other reviews noted that this smart plug is rated 15A / 1800W, capable to run a heater. I did not test this, though. My use case does not require nearly as much wattage.

A good product that works as expected. So far I can only get it from Apple online store. Not sure if this product is an Apple exclusive.
